Senior Recital, College Graduation, Future Plans
The last two weeks have been incredibly busy. On April 28th, I had my senior capstone recital, featuring professor Jim Hegarty on piano and Dr. Paul Steinbeck on bass guitar. We played to a fairly packed room, which was an unexpected treat during such a busy time of year (it was on Thursday of the last week of classes before finals) for all of us students. I also live streamed the event on my personal Facebook page, where somewhere between 30 and 50 friends from around the world were able to tune in. I just received the high quality video from the recital the other day, so I will be posting that on YouTube sometime very soon. I'll put a link on this blog, as well as on the main website page. The recital itself was a treat. Getting to play with such high caliber musicians was an excellent experience, and I think I managed to hold my own. I definitely felt that the hard work over the last year paid off.
On May 2nd I turned 22, and also had the hardest final of my college career. This finals week was exceedingly difficult in general, but it all paid off at graduation. On May 8th, I graduated with highest honors from Principia College with a degree in Music. I'm officially done with college!
The next few days were spent packing my things and visiting with friends and relatives. I only just have had a chance to sit down and collect my thoughts. I am currently trying to figure out summer plans and a living situation. I plan on moving to Denver this summer, but I have yet to figure out precisely when I will move there full time. For now I'm headed back to my childhood home in Washington, to pack my things and hopefully find a way to make a bit of money to help cover rent in Denver. I am looking for gigs, and I am looking to transition into teaching lessons to students of all ages, and am absolutely willing to give lessons via Skype. Please be in touch if you are interested in taking drum set or percussion lessons with me.
